  1. Great blog! Enjoy your K-W resto reviews 🙂

  2. Hi there,

My name is Thusenth and I’ve come across your site a few times now, and I think it’s full of lots of cool posts. It’s always fun to come across people who grew up elsewhere, came here for school, vow to never come back, but then one way or another calling the region home. 🙂

I’m emailing to let you know about a site that I and a friend created. I’m going to send you an invite and maybe you’ll find it useful. It was created as a simple way to keep a personal list of your recommended places and share them. Users can follow each others recommendations in the same way users follow each other in Twitter. I think it would be a great way for readers to follow your recommendations – and an awesome way for people to see all of them in one spot. We opened the site to friends and family a couple months ago and we’re spinning the next release part-time.

When you get a bunch of people doing individual recommendations you map out the reputations of places. Recommendations work better than ratings for businesses because “five-star” ratings are skewed (hence why YouTube switched to thumb up/down). At the same time we didn’t want a thumbs down option because a low recommendation count is an implied negative – it makes it a less hostile place for business owners to communicate too.

At the end of the day, most businesses are made through word-of-mouth and that’s what we want to try and map here. We didnt really start it for monetary gain, it’s part-time as I work at RIM and my co-founder at Desire2Learn. It’s mostly an experiment to see if we can map out local word-of-mouth and amplify it using the Internet.

I’d love to hear from you and gain a blogger’s perspective on using it as a central repository of recommendations. If you do sign up, I’d recommend jumping into the profile settings and setting the city to Waterloo (we’ll be making it more obvious on our next release).

    Thanks!

    – Thusenth

The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony is a great way to spend a night out.
The seats were fantastic and the show exceeded my expectations!
    Thank you so much,

    Hiya,

I just stumbled upon your blog while looking for a review for The Jane Bond today. I’ve been reading through your blog posts and I noticed the one about Nikko Nikko Sushi. I haven’t personally been there, but I do adore sushi.

There is a place on King Street I believe (the main street in downtown, Kitchener) called Ye’s Sushi. And the sushi there is DELICIOUS. I especially prefer their Dragon Roll. But any other types of sushi there are also very delicious. As an international Canadian student studying in England right now, I can’t put into words how much I am craving sushi at Ye’s sushi. It is probably the most delicious place I’ve ate at. And they’ve recently (a couple years ago) had huge renovations, so the place looks very neat/new on the inside. And all the sushi is made out in the front, with quick service (depending on how many customers are there). They do however mix up orders SOMETIMES. It has only happened to my friend and I once though in the several times we have gone.

Thanks for the great blog readings!
